About
Makhosi Baba Muvo Ngcobo is a respected Zulu Sangoma devoted to ancestral healing, intergenerational restoration and the preservation of indigenous African wisdom. Initiated into the ancestral Lion lineage, he has walked the path of the Sangoma for over two decades, guided by ancestral calling, discipline and lived experience within African healing traditions.
Born in the townships of Pietermaritzburg to a Zulu father and Ndebele mother, Makhosi Baba Muvo’s life has been shaped by profound adversity and challenge. These experiences formed part of his ancestral calling, leading him into deep initiation and years of training under revered Sangoma elders. Through this journey, he developed a deep understanding of how ancestral trauma, collective memory and resilience are held within the human psyche, body and spirit, as understood within African cosmology.
Makhosi Baba Muvo is known for his ability to hold safe, grounded spaces where ancestral wounds can be acknowledged and healed. His work supports mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing, drawing on African ritual, ceremony and plant medicines guided by ancestral insight. Healing is carried out with greatest integrity, humility, care and respect for each person’s readiness, choice and journey.
The Lion Lineage
Makhosi Baba Muvo carries a lineage rooted primarily in Zulu and Hlubi ancestry, with Xhosa heritage also present. This lineage has been carefully and respectfully handed down through generations of revered elders from the deeply honoured Makhosi Mkhulu Hadebe and Makhosi Gogo Mncwabe, to devoted Makhosi Mhlophekazi, and now to Makhosi Baba Muvo Ngcobo embodying the eldership and leadership of the Lion Lineage.
The Ancient ways in Modern times - Beyond recent elders, this lineage traces back to ancient traditions where medicine, ceremony and teachings were shared through disciplined initiation, communion with the land, the elements, and ancestral guidance. Knowledge was transmitted at specific times, around sacred fires, and through rites designed to deepen humility, responsibility and service bring the ancient in innovation to support the modern world.
